We are committed to fostering confident, purposeful, and independent writers. Our writing curriculum is carefully designed to ensure that pupils master the complete writing process—from planning and drafting to revising and publishing. By engaging students in meaningful, real-world writing opportunities, we aim to build their ability to adapt writing to a range of purposes and audiences.
We recognize that effective writing is underpinned by fluency in foundational skills such as spelling, punctuation, and handwriting. High-quality instruction, extensive practice, and feedback ensure that pupils develop these skills with increasing automaticity, freeing their cognitive resources for more complex aspects of writing composition.
In alignment with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) recommendations, we aim to give pupils "a reason to write—and someone to write for" to enhance their motivation and allow them to practice adapting their writing to different audiences and purposes. Our curriculum also emphasizes oracy as a key tool in the writing process, helping pupils articulate their thoughts and experiment with language choices through verbal rehearsal before committing them to writing .
By incorporating these evidence-based strategies, we are dedicated to ensuring that every pupil at Bude Juniors develops as a skilled, creative, and confident writer, fully equipped for the demands of future learning.
